While living in Tuscany, Florence was the closest large city to me so I would visit it frequently. Florence has some incredible food and I thought I would share my favorite spots to eat while in Florence. From breakfast to nice restaurants, and the best gelato in Florence. I hope you enjoy this food guide and have a great time eating your way through Florence.
Breakfast Food in Florence
Italian breakfast is very different from other countries as it usually consists of a pastry and coffee. If you are looking for more than just the traditional Italian breakfast these are the places that I would recommend going.
Wild Buns Bakery
Wild Buns Bakery is a small Swedish bakery located across the river in Florence. They have lots of incredible buns as well as a variety of sandwiches. They have matcha as well as a variety of specialty drinks. It is the perfect place to go if you are wanting some baked goods, as it is the best bakery in Florence. I recommend going early and seeing if you can get any pastries while they are still warm.
Ditta Artigianale
Ditta Artigianale is a small coffee chain in Florence. They have a variety of breakfast options. If you are looking for a tasty traditional American breakfast in Florence this is the place I would go. I usually go here for brunch and you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. They have everything from French toast to eggs, soups, and, salads, and my favorite, their pesto burrata toast. It is delicious and it can be made gluten-free. It is perfect if you are looking for gluten-free options. If you like sweet coffee drinks I would also recommend trying their tiramisu latte as it makes a great refreshing treat.
Lunch in Florence: All’Antico Vinatico
It is hard to think about lunch food in Florence without thinking of a classic Italian panino. Chances are you already know about Flornce’s most famous sandwich shop, All’Antico Vinatico. While their sandwiches are good, I don’t think they are worth it if the line is long. To avoid the lines I would recommend going at off times so not between 12-3. There will likely still be a small line during the off times as well but the lines get divided between their three shops so they move quickly. My go-to is a Bada Come la Fuma with arugula. It is so good and their sandwiches are huge so I recommend splitting them.
Great Dinner Resturant Florence: Il Santo Bevitore
Il Santo Bevitore is the perfect place to get dinner in Florence. They have a nice atmosphere as well as a great menu and wine list. Everything on the menu is super reasonably priced which makes it a great restaurant no matter your budget. The food here is delicious. When I went it got pretty packed so I recommend calling to make a reservation ahead of time. They own three places, a restaurant, a bakery, and a place for aperitivo. The bakery is so cute and has a selection of fresh baked goods. I have not been to their bar yet for aperitivo but I will check it out next time I am in Florence.
The Best Gelato in Florence
Out of all the places I have visited in Italy, Florence has to have my favorite gelato. Choosing my top two favorite gelato places was very easy as I haven’t found a single place that compares their quality of ingredients and flavors. You cannot go to Florence without getting gelato from one of these two places.
Gelateria Della Passeria
Gelateria della Passeria is incredible. I would go here if you love fruity flavors and sorbets. They have the most incredible sorbets I have had in my life. I would recommend getting their kiwi if they have it as well as their pear flavor. The texture and flavors of these are incredible. I don’t know how they do it but it tastes like you are biting into the freshest most perfectly ripe fruit with every bite. It is worth knowing that this place has gotten a lot more popular in the past year and there can tend to be a line. If you want to avoid this you should go when they first open or later in the evening. While their fruity flavors are unreal I think there are some better options if you are wanting traditional creamy gelato.
Eduardo’s
Eduarodo’s is my favorite place for traditional gelato in Florence. Everything is organic and they use high-quality ingredients with great seasonal flavors. They make all of their ice cream cones fresh. In the fall they had a pumpkin stracciatella that was so good. It is located right next to Piazza del Duomo which makes it a very convenient stop. Even with it being right next to the Duomo in Florence I have never seen a big line here.
I hope that this food guide was helpful and that you have the best time in Florence enjoying some of these spots! If you are looking for where to shop in Florence check out my shopping guide here.
