If you are visiting Milan and looking for a place to get breakfast I have got you covered. Milan is home to some amazing bakeries and cafes. All of the brunch places in this guide also have high-end pick-up coffee and pastries so depending on your time or ability to get a reservation you can also stop by any of these places for a great specialty coffee and pastry to go or to the bar.
The Best Bakeries in Milan for a Quick Breakfast
Loste
Loste is my favorite bakery in Milan. They make delicious Scandinavian-inspired pastries, as well as a great yogurt bowl with their homemade granola. The owner is always very friendly and you can see the community he has built with this coffee shop. They make one of my favorite cappuccinos and have amazing choices for filtered coffee.
Loste is also my favorite for an afternoon snack. if you are lucky enough to come on a day that they have their focaccia, you must try it. I recommend getting a few types of focaccia to share and a bottle of wine and sitting outside. While their wine selection is small, it includes many incredible natural wines.
Loste is an extremely popular spot on the weekends. I recommend if you don’t want to stand in line for hours avoid going on the weekends, and if you do just try to get there before 9:30 because many times in the afternoon you stand in line for a long time and they often run out of pastries.
Marchesi 1824
Marchesi 1824 is one of the oldest and chicest cafes in Milan. They have a few locations across the city, but for an unforgettable experience, I recommend going to the one located in the Galleria. Their coffee is good, and they might have the best prices in the Galleria. My favorite pastry from Marchesi 1824 is the treccia di frutta, it is light and delicious.
The entrance to Marchesi 1824 can be tricky to find because of its upstairs location, the sign on the entrance says Fondazione Prada Osservatorio and you will see a small Marchesi menu inside. Go up, and go up the stairs and you will be greeted by the hostess. The cafe is truly stunning and you can stand at a table looking into the Galleria. I have never stood in line here, but I saw a line forming when I was leaving. So I recommend getting there early for the best experience.
Where to Get Brunch in Milan
Pan
Pan is a Japanese-style bakery with fantastic pastries and a lovely brunch/lunch menu. A few of my favorites from Pan are the shoku pan, quiche, and the yuzu croissant. I am not normally a cream-filled croissant fan but the yuzu adds such a delicious flavor. The shoku pan is a next-level ham and cheese sandwich on killer Japanese Milk bread. I am constantly dreaming about getting my hands on one of their miso cinnamon rolls but unfortunately, I haven’t been there when they have had them in stock. Pan has incredible energy and a fantastic way to start your day before a busy day in the city.
Nowhere Coffe Roasters
Nowhere is the perfect place to go for brunch if are staying in central Milan. You may need a reservation for weekend brunch, but it isn’t usually a problem to get a table during the week. They have a great selection of specialty coffee drinks (the espresso tonic is my favorite). As well as a set brunch menu for €25 where you get three courses and have around three options for each. This is a great thing to do with a group of friends as you get to try lots of their amazing dishes at such a good price. My favorites all la carte from here are their tropical gazpacho which is light and flavorful. As well as their super buttery and comforting brioche egg bomb. I always get a canelé to go as it makes the perfect treat for later.
I hope that you have a great time exploring all of Milan’s fantastic bakeries! If you are looking for somewhere to stay while in Milan, check out this review on one of my favorite hotels here.
