If you are traveling in Siena and don’t know where to get lunch this is the guide for you. I went to University in Siena and thought that I would share all of my go-to lunch places from when I lived there.
Where to get a Quick Lunch in Siena
Pizzicheria De Miccoli
Antonio’s Pizzicheria De Miccoli is the best place for lunch in Siena. It is perfect if you are looking for a quick lunch in Siena. They have the best sandwiches to go. He has all sorts of deli meats and delicious cheese. My number one tip when coming to lunch at Pizzicheria De Miccoli is that you have to get their pesto. I have had so much pesto from so many places in Italy and nothing compares to their homemade pesto. I recommend always asking if he has Foccacia for your sandwich. It is so good, salty, and freshly made. It’s typically ready between 11:30 and 12:00, and unless it is a really busy day they will probably have it until at least 3:00.
If you have more time the aperitivo here is a must. You can get it at any time of the day and it is a plate with different meats, cheeses, spreads, and lots of bread. Antionio takes so much pride in all of his products and everything is the best quality. Doing aperitivo for lunch here is the best way to try a selection of local products and enjoy some great wine while standing outside of his shop watching all of the people going by.
While Pizzicheria De Miccoli is a great place to get lunch in Siena it is also a fantastic place to get gifts to bring home. They make lots of jarred products such as sauces, sundried tomatoes as well as cookies, and other Siena specialties. I hope that you enjoy having lunch at Antio’s during your visit to Siena.
Pastazuf
Pastazuf is another great option for a quickish street food lunch in Siena. They make loads of fresh pasta as well as having some vegetable sides. It is very affordable as it is only 6 euros for a plate of fresh pasta that can easily feed two people. You build your own pasta by selecting your shape and sauce from the list. My favorite from here is the artichoke carbonara with pici. It is so fantastic and I could not recommend it enough.
Menchetti
Menchetti is located in my favorite grocery store/market in Siena. they have fresh baked goods and pizza al trancio all day long. I recommend getting the sausage and onion. It is a great place to get a really quick lunch that you can eat while walking around. It’s also a great place to pick up some Siena specialties like ricciarelli.
Pizzeria La Trofea
Pizzeria La Trofea is located right next to the Piazza del Campo in Siena. When I was in university this was everyone’s go-to place as the pizza is cheap, quick, and tasty. Is it the best pizza in Siena? No, but that’s okay because it is located right in the piazza you can pick up a slice and eat it while people-watching in Siena’s most iconic spot. If you are looking for some of Siena’s nicer pizzas I recommend Alle Scalette or Il Banderino which is located right in front of Pizzeria La Trofea in the Piazza and makes a great place to get a drink at night facing the Piazza. I have also heard great things about La Napoletana 2.0 but it is located a bit farther out of the city so I never got the chance to go there.
Where to Go for a Nice Lunch in Siena
Quarto
If you are looking for a more creative and upscale lunch in Siena, Quarto is the spot for you. They are open for lunch during the summer months and have incredible food. Quarto has top-notch service with a special ambiance. It is a small and intimate restaurant with only four or five tables hidden in the small streets of Siena.
After Lunch in Siena
If you are craving something sweet after lunch I cannot recommend my favorite gelateria in Siena enough. Il Masgalano is the best gelato in Siena and the people there are so kind. They are so passionate about their gelato and use amazing ingredients. Each month they have a rotating special flavor that is always amazing. They also have the best dark chocolate flavor, it is so rich and my absolute favorite that I have tried. If you are more into coffee you have to get their granita, my go-to is mandorla and cafe which makes the most amazing blended coffee combo.
